Ester & Erik

Ester & Erik has been making candles in Denmark since 1987, using traditional dipping methods to create slender forms, carefully developed colours, and distinctive finishes.

Each candle is made and finished by hand, with attention to proportion, colour, and the quality of the burn. The simplicity of the forms allows them to work easily on their own or grouped together around the table and throughout the home.

Their calendar and Advent candles are particularly rooted in Danish Christmas traditions. Numbered candles mark the days of December or the four Sundays of Advent, creating a simple way to follow the approach to Christmas through candlelight.

I am especially drawn to these pieces because they connect good Danish design with a tradition I grew up with. Lighting the candle as Christmas approaches is a small part of December, but one that returns year after year.
