The Art of Handmade Ceramics: Behind the Scenes with Ditte Fischer

Handmade pieces carry something with them—more than just form or function. A kind of presence. A quiet attention.

In this short behind-the-scenes film, we’re invited into the Copenhagen studio of Danish ceramicist Ditte Fischer as she creates the Anniversary Cup—a special design made for the Danish Art Foundation.

From the first pour to the final firing, every step is shaped by patience, intention, and care. There’s a rhythm to the way Ditte works—steady, precise, and deeply connected to the materials she’s chosen to work with.

Since graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1995, she’s been creating porcelain pieces that embody the values of Danish design: clean lines, soft tones, and quiet strength.

Her work doesn’t shout it stays. Thoughtfully made, designed for daily use, and crafted to bring a gentle kind of beauty to the spaces we live in.

Ditte’s work holds a quiet presence that has always resonated with me. Thoughtful shapes, soft finishes, and a way of designing that feels both grounded and gentle.

You will find a selection of her handmade ceramics in the shop - pieces that carry the same calm and care you see in her process.
